Silverstone will NOT host sprint race during British Grand Prix this year as F1 chief Stefano Domenicali considers taking concept to new venues… but the format could also be AXED in squabble over money

Silverstone is not scheduled to host a sprint race during the British Grand Prix weekend in July. However, the entire sprint race format could be axed this year in a fight over money. Domenicali is unwilling to give in to those demands but has compromised by halving his proposed number of sprints from six to three. Under Domenicali’s plans, ‘pole’ would officially be awarded to the man who sets the fastest time in qualifying rather than to the winner of the sprint race (as was controversially the case last year).
