Ferrari LOSE appeal against Carlos Sainz’s five-second penalty at Australian Grand Prix as there is ‘no significant and relevant new element’ to overturn it – after Spaniard’s podium hopes ended in collision with Fernando Alonso

Ferrari have lost their petition to appeal against Carlos Sainz’s demotion during the dramatic final moments of the Australian Grand Prix. Tell them they need to wait until the race is finished and discuss it with me. Ferrari petitioned to review the incident and submitted a statement from Sainz and supportive post-race interviews from other drivers, including Alonso, as well as telemetry. In response, a Ferrari statement added: ‘We acknowledge the FIA decision not to grant us a right of review in relation to the penalty imposed on Carlos Sainz at the 2023 Australian Grand Prix. ‘We are naturally disappointed, and felt that we had provided sufficient significant new elements for the FIA to re-examine the decision especially in the context of the particular conditions and multiple incidents that occurred during the final restart.
