‘You got the fastest lap in the end?’… ‘On the last lap, yeah’: The VERY awkward moment between Max Verstappen and duelling team-mate Sergio Perez, before the Mexican called for Red Bull ‘information’ review despite winning Saudi Grand Prix

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez shared an extremely awkward moment after Sunday’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix despite Red Bull securing their second successive one-two of the season. But Perez was clearly unhappy after finding out afterwards that Verstappen had picked up an extra point by recording the fastest lap of the race on the final lap. Perez questioned: ‘Were you not told to keep the pace?’. But then I asked what was the fastest lap and I think it was a tenth faster than what we were doing,’ Verstappen explained. Verstappen now leads the standings by a point courtesy of setting the fastest lap in Jeddah, leaving Perez frustrated at the instructions he was given by Red Bull. ‘I asked two laps from the end when they told me to keep a certain pace,’ Perez told reporters. ‘They told me I had the fastest lap and to keep the pace at a certain pace.
