Williamson Collects Another Port Royal Check

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Something about Port Royal Speedway clicks with Mat Williamson. Williamson passed Stewart Friesen with 10 laps to go and went on to win the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win Short Track Super Series feature at the Pennsylvania half mile. “It’s big to get one early in the year,” Williamson said. Friesen led the first 30 laps, but Williamson ran a methodical pace and saved his best for when he needed it. Williamson started eighth and by lap six he had worked around polesitter Jessica Friesen for second. When Stewart Friesen caught lapped traffic, Williamson closed to just mere car lengths before Anthony Perrego brought out the caution on lap 17. While Stewart Friesen hung it out wide with 10 laps to go, Williamson stayed true to the bottom and drove by. For Williamson, it’s his second career Short Track Super Series win.
