Wheldon Documentary ‘The Lionheart’ Debuts March 12 on HBO

The HBO Sports documentary about NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon and his family, “The Lionheart,” will debut at 9 p.m. 2005 and 2011 Indy 500 winner Wheldon suffered fatal injuries in October 2011 in a crash during the INDYCAR SERIES race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As Susie Wheldon grapples with her grief and the responsibility of raising their sons alone, the two boys, ages 12 and 10, take on their father’s mantle and enter the world of professional racing. The film explores Susie Wheldon’s dilemma as a mother who questions whether her family’s lineage is a blessing or a burden while watching her sons, with the high-risk sport deeply embedded in their DNA, try to reconcile their father’s absence by embracing the very sport that took him from them.
