Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has warned that his team will not be making any performance-based improvements to the W14 until at least Imola. ‘We are doing good steps, good developments but you have to run them, confirm them, produce them,’ Wolff told Sky Sports. ‘This morning was good, this afternoon wasn’t so good,’ he said of the first two practice sessions in Australia. ‘We made some changes, didn’t work so, we’ll revise those tonight. ‘We won’t be competing against the Red Bulls, it will just be about seeing if we can get up as high as possible. ‘It was a reasonably good session for us, we definitely made a step from FP1, which was a good thing. ‘We need to see how it translates into tomorrow but definitely P1 I wasn’t very happy with the car and FP2 I was pretty happy, so not too bad. ‘We need to see how that translates [in Qualifying].
