Apart from those incredible and very loud fireworks, the event I really enjoyed in Valencia was always the photocall on the grid for the new World Champions. For the first time in 15 years all three of them were crowned World Champions for the very first time. Jorge Lorenzo won the first of his World titles in the 250cc class while fellow Spaniard Alvaro Bautista was the 125cc World Champion. It turned out to be the only World titles in any class for the three of them. In the 1980s, no season produced new World Champions in every class but 1978 was a significant year. Eugenio Lazzarini was crowned 125cc World Champion while the rider who the Valencia circuit is named after, Ricardo Tormo won the first of his two 80 cc World titles.
