The Race that Was: US GP 2005

Few Grands Prix have been as controversial as the 2005 United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis – a race that resulted in our only podium of that season!. When the flag dropped, Monteiro completed the next step on his way to the podium by holding on to P3, with team-mate Karthikeyan slotting into P5 behind Christijan Albers. Karthikeyan would pit again on Lap 46, two laps before Monteiro also made his second stop. Monteiro then held a comfortable buffer to his fourth-placed team-mate, which he held to the flag. “It was a very weird situation – but I’m so happy for myself and for the team,” he said, after the race. Even if it was a weird situation, it’s still a podium. It’s my first year [in F1] and to finish nine races in a row, including a podium, is great.
