Lewis Hamilton and George Russell appear to be united in firing Mercedes back into contention in Formula One as they worked out together ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix. The Mercedes duo have struggled to compete with their Red Bull and Ferrari rivals in the first two races of the season – posting poor performances in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Hamilton and Russell finished third and fourth respectively in Bahrain and then the seven-time world champion didn’t even make Q2 and was forced to start 16th on the grid a week later. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was fiercely critical of his team’s performance in the first few races of the season. Russell finds himself 23 points off the Ferrari leader, despite his pair of finishes in the points positions.
