Stewards 'surprised' Alonso cut chicane three laps in a row

Charlie Whiting says while the stewards were surprised to see Alonso miss the chicane on all of the last three laps of the race, they never considered black-flagging the McLaren F1 driver.
However, Alonso was hit with three separate five-second time penalties for leaving the track and gaining an advantage, with video footage showing the Spaniard had completely missed the Turn 8/9 chicane on the final three laps of the race.
Fia race director Whiting said after the race the stewards had been “surprised” by Alonso’s chicane cuts, but never considered giving him a black-flag and disqualifying him from the race.
