Sebastian Vettel tells F1 to ‘develop a moral compass’ and reconsider staging races in nations with ‘horrible’ human rights records – and admits he is a climate change hypocrite while calling for the calendar to be overhauled for a lower carbon footprint

Sebastian Vettel politely interjects when the topic of climate change comes up during our conversation at Silverstone. ‘We go to Baku and then to Canada, before coming back here [Silverstone], which does not make a great deal of sense when you have had a race in Miami already. ‘There are some topics that you just cannot hide from,’ Vettel says. ‘Some you cannot afford not to talk about – they impact you and they impact on so many people around the world. One such subject is human rights, another that Vettel has not been afraid to discuss publicly. ‘You can avoid going there, but at the same time there are great people there.
