Saudi Arabian Grand Prix LIVE: Hamilton trails Verstappen as champ surges to 2nd in thrilling Saudi GP – updates

THE Formula One racers are motoring through the laps at the Saudi Grand Prix – and Max Verstappen is closing in on top spot. The F1 icon started down in 15th on the grid due to a faulty car in qualifying. Fernando Alonso was the latest driver who had nothing in the car to stop the Red Bull. Fernando Alonso pitted and took his five second penalty with cars travelling at safety car speeds. As Fernando Alonso builds a five second gap on George Russell in third place, it is all happening behind them. Max Verstappen has gained four places from his grid position and he storms into 11th place. Fernando Alonso makes a brilliant start to this Grand Prix, taking first place on the first turn. Safety cars having to come out can make or break this race for many drivers. While Hamilton has said the two cars are slightly different, Russell held second place behind Charles Leclerc before Alonso and Perez put in quicker times.
