Alexander Rossi turned the fastest lap of the opening practice Friday morning for the Gallagher Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Rossi’s best lap was 1 minute, 10.0919 seconds in the No. Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Josef Newgarden was second at 1:10.1121 in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda, followed by Scott McLaughlin at 1:10.2065 in the No. Reigning series champion Alex Palou rounded out the top five at 1:10.2093 in the No. All 25 drivers in the field combined to turn 723 laps on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course. The 85-lap race starts at noon Saturday (live on NBC, INDYCAR Radio Network).
