Lance continued his strong qualifying form in the 2020 Formula 1 season by crucially making it into Q3 on the favoured Medium tyre, while Nico was unfortunate to miss out on a Q3 berth at Silverstone. Lance and Nico then demonstrated front-running pace in Q1 right from the off. But Lance and Nico were both able to squeeze in a flying lap each once the session resumed, with Lance’s 1.26.243 pushing him up to P4. Nico would again start by setting an early flying lap – this time a 1.26.645 that moved him into P2. He ended the first run with a time of 1.25.895, which placed him in P4 after his rivals ended their first attempts. Lance: “The positive today is that we’re starting P6 tomorrow and our strategy worked out – meaning we have the advantage of starting on the medium tyre and that should help us fight some of the cars around us.
