Checo took an impressive P5 on the grid for Formula 1’s first-ever Sakhir Grand Prix, while Lance battled damage to take P10 and ensure both cars made it into the Top 10. Checo would initially take the top spot with a 54.267 lap time, narrowly ahead of Lance in P4 (54.595). But on his second run, Lance damaged his RP20 at Turn 8; the resulting loss of downforce affecting his lap times. Checo’s 53.787 lap time was an impressive effort that sent him P2 and comfortably into Q3. He improved again on his second run on a new set of Softs to lap in 53.790 and take P5 on the grid. Despite his car’s damage, Lance lapped in 54.200, finding slightly more time on his second run to take P10 for tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
