Red light Homophobic and racist abuse by fans cast shadow over Austrian GP as F1 and Lewis Hamilton slam ‘unacceptable’ harassment

FORMULA ONE chiefs and Lewis Hamilton have condemned the “unacceptable” harassment reported by a number of fans at the Austrian GP. Over the course of the weekend, fans have complained on social media about the abuse, which included homophobic and racist slurs. The fans’ reports have been elevated to F1 chiefs, who are taking the matter up with the Red Bull Ring. “This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated and all fans should be treated with respect.”. Hamilton, who only yesterday criticised fans for cheering his crash during qualifying was also quick to criticise the behaviour.
