Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secures pole position at the French Grand Prix with Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas to start second and third respectively at the Paul Ricard circuit

Max Verstappen, the championship leader, beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position for the French Grand Prix. Hamilton gave it his all but was just over two tenths down on the Red Bull star. Bottas meanwhile has posted the fastest lap of the session, 0.053 seconds faster than Hamilton as Perez and Verstappen settle for third and fourth respectively, setting up a mouthwatering Q3. Hamilton staying in the garage while Verstappen comes out, as does Bottas. Gasly is the first to take to a hot lap and wil be the first to post a time. Hamilton, Verstappen and Bottas are yet to emerge from the pits as Gasly, Vettel and Sainz take to the 3.6 mile track.
