Penske Electric Transporter Charges Drive to Sustainability

Tucked on the banks of the Willamette River near the ports of Portland’s Swan Island sits the picturesque Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) headquarters. Team Penske transporters have been pulled by a Freightliner to every NTT INDYCAR SERIES race since 1984. The unit was on its way to meet two-time race winner Scott McLaughlin at DTNA’s “Electric Island” charging station where the 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year McLaughlin brought his No. 3 Freightliner Chevrolet and the truck that was wrapped in the same e-mobility scheme. “They have been at the forefront of electric trucks since becoming the first company to take delivery of a Freightliner eCascadia in 2018. Never before had an electric truck transported an INDYCAR SERIES car to the racetrack. “I could have easily driven the truck myself, but with my race car in the back I was happy to just be a passenger on that trip,” McLaughlin said.
