Newgarden Fastest Again In St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden continues to rebound from last Sunday’s first lap crash at Barber Motorsports Park during the season-opener for the NTT IndyCar Series. Newgarden, Friday’s fastest driver in practice, was also the fastest driver in Saturday morning’s practice session for Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. “We had good race pace at the end of the race last year, but I think we have a better car for qualifying,” Newgarden said. “To have 24 cars on the track, it’s hard in practice. You can’t get mad at them because I was getting in their way, too. Several times in practice he tried to get a flying lap, but could not after getting caught in traffic.
