Morris III Sweeps The Pettit Shootout

WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Troy Morris III completed the sweep of the 12th annual Pat and Jim Pettit Shootout at Ocean Speedway with a dominating performance on Saturday night, driving to a half-track advantage to claim the $3,006 prize after the 53-lap feature. Decarlo drove into lapped traffic by lap 13 and Morris began to reel him in using the low line. Morris edged forward on the backstretch and completed the pass for the top spot on lap 18. The race went non-stop over the final 49 laps with Morris lapping all but the top-six finishers. Morris’s father Troy, Jr. led the way after starting on the outside pole position. Nick Spainhoward was on a mission, advancing from 16th to third by lap 27. They raced side-by-side until lap 31 when Ryland nosed forward with the lead. Gallaher drove ahead of the field on the final five laps for the win.
