Mick Schumacher’s miserable season delivered its latest low in Suzuka as the under-pressure German crashed out in first practice. Pieces of his car were strewn across the gravel but Schumacher was able to get out the car unharmed as he trudged back to the paddock, fuming at his latest mistake. Team boss Gunther Steiner fired a warning to Schumacher back in July that crashes were putting his future at the team at risk – but it was a warning that clearly has fallen by the wayside. ‘It’s just not possible to continue like this,’ Steiner told reporters after Schumacher crashed badly in Monaco over the summer, ‘and he knows that.
