‘Maybe he should have stopped last year!’: Red Bull’s spiky advisor Helmut Marko tells Lewis Hamilton he should have RETIRED rather than face the shame his struggles this season, after being lapped by rival Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton has been told he should have retired from Formula One after the seven-time world champion’s frustrating start to the season. There had been speculation that Hamilton could retire from Formula One at the end of last season, following his controversial defeat to Max Verstappen in the 2021 title decider in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton missed out on what would have been a record eighth drivers’ championship when he was overtaken by Verstappen on the final lap of last season. He told Sky Sports after the race: ‘I’m out of it, for sure. After his season-long battle with Verstappen in 2021, it would have been a tough sight for Hamilton to see the Red Bull driver lap him on Lap 41 in the 63 lap race on Sunday.
