Max Verstappen snatches the World Championship off Lewis Hamilton on the LAST LAP of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after late safety car chaos sees the Dutchman win his first ever title

Max Verstappen has dethroned Lewis Hamilton as champion of the world. Hamilton now simply had more speed than Verstappen, the Mercedes holding the whip hand over the Red Bull. Hamilton is in first and has plenty of other cars behind him, separating him from Verstappen. The gap between the top two is now ticking up to around the 12 second mark, although Verstappen is still absolutely flying. The Red Bull is faster than Hamilton currently, but Verstappen is now gaining quick enough to close down the champion. The gap between Hamilton and Verstappen is now down to just over 14 seconds – but the latter is running out of time. The Red Bull ace is eight seconds behind Hamilton, while Perez is in first. Hamilton still holds the lead, but Red Bull have both Verstappen and Perez very close to each other. It’s Max Verstappen v Lewis Hamilton at the finale in Abu Dhabi.
