Max Verstappen receives five-place grid penalty for Italian Grand Prix after engine change… while Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz will start from the BACK after alterations

Max Verstappen has been handed a five-place grid penalty for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix after changing his engine. Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz have also picked up penalties for car alterations, with Hamilton and Sainz set to start from the back of the grid. Perez has also changed his ICE and will serve a ten-place penalty, while Hamilton will start from the back of the grid after several changes to his Mercedes, alongside Sainz, who has swapped his gearbox. Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas has received a 15-place grid penalty for new engine components, with AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunda joining Hamilton, Sainz and likely Bottas at the back of the grid after opting to add new engine components after he was already struck with a grid penalty for receiving his fifth warning of the season in Holland.
