Formula One flung wide its factory gates on Monday after a fortnight summer break. Nine of the 22 races remain, starting with the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa this weekend. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari is currently in that position, and is likely to remain there. This fragility brings into the reckoning Lewis Hamilton, currently lying sixth and 32 points adrift of Leclerc, and his Mercedes team-mate George Russell, fourth and 20 off. There is a chance that this season may be Hamilton’s last, or so it seemed when he was ailing in substandard machinery. Speaking of Spa, this weekend’s race may be the last there. Their entry may be delayed a year, until 2024, buying Spa a short reprieve.
