Max Verstappen draws first blood in battle with Lewis Hamilton as Red Bull star storms to pole ahead of world champion for Formula One’s season opener at the Bahrain Grand Prix

Max Verstappen lit up hope for a competitive season by blitzing to pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Hamilton beats Verstappen’s previous lap time, but the Red Bull driver follows up and absolutely SMASHES the Brit’s fastest time out of the park!. Daniel Ricciardo is first to post a time – 1:31.384 -that won’t trouble Hamilton and Verstappen. Gasly betters the Australian and here comes Bottas, he can’t beat Gasly’s time but Hamilton can. Bottas, Verstappen and Hamilton have all crossed the line… and it is Hamilton who posts the fastest lap time with 1:30.085, the first time he has gone quicker than the Red Bull this weekend. Hamilton has come back out for another go at a hot lap with two minutes remaining of Q1. Nobody on a hot lap right now with 10 minutes remaining of the session.
