Mark Webber tips Oscar Piastri to surpass his achievements in Formula One and reveals ‘extraordinary skill’ that’s helped the young Aussie settle in his rookie season: ‘He wants to destroy my trophy cabinet!’

Mark Webber believes Oscar Piastri can surpass his achievements in Formula One and has praised the rookie’s calm performance at the Australian Grand Prix. By scoring his first Formula One points in his home GP, Piastri emulated Webber, who finished fifth with Minardi at the end a similarly incident-strewn race at Albert Park in 2002 on his debut. With 14 and 12 victories respectively, three-time world champion Jack Brabham and 1980 world champion Alan Jones are the only two Australians to have won more Formula One races than Webber. And Webber said Piastri’s performance at Albert Park showed he had not allowed the early struggles of his debut season to get to him. A world champion in Formula 2 and Formula 3 in 2020 and 2021, Piastri has long been considered one of Formula 1’s rising stars.
