Mahoney’s Memories: Terre Haute 1966

Editor’s Note: In this monthly photo essay feature, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame photographer John Mahoney shares his memories and images from some of the most amazing and historic sprint car and midget races. The reason I’ve included this race in my Memories series is not the race itself, but rather the thrill of shooting posed photos of my racing heroes that day. Cars were lined up in the qualifying queue and I picked a spot near the head of the line. I was fairly new to shooting posed photos, but I figured this was as good a chance as any to ask.
