Loeb remembers Junior apprenticeship

Sébastien Loeb doesn’t strike you as a rally driver who would struggle to attract manufacturer attention. “I think it was the best solution to show at world level what I am able to do,” Loeb explained. Driving a Citroën Saxo, Loeb and long-term co-driver Daniel Elena were quick from the get-go. The performances soon caught the attention of Citroën bosses, who offered Loeb a drive in their Xsara World Rally Car for Sanremo in 2001. “After the Sanremo, all these manufacturers came back to me and said, ‘oh, we are interested now!’. Loeb and Elena went on to wrap up the Junior WRC title and earned themselves a full-time place at Citroën.
