Lewis Hamilton left stunned by Mercedes’ lack of pace after he finished 1.8 seconds adrift of Max Verstappen in Belgian Grand Prix qualifying… but title leader will begin at the back for an engine change with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on pole

Lewis Hamilton came over the radio to ask: ‘How far off were we?’. Hamilton has won a race every season of his career bar this one. Carlos Sainz of Ferrari takes Pole by finishing second on track with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez behind him to make up the front row on the grid for tomorrow’s main event. Carlos Sainz is using his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc as a slipstream. Remember Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc will start at the back of the grid regardless of their qualifying times. He may be starting out the back of the grid tomorrow but Max Verstappen is looking quick out on the Spa circuit. Both Mercedes looked well of the pace and I wouldn’t be surprised to see both George Russel and Hamilton miss out on Q3. Hamilton looks fast on soft tyres as all other drivers head out on track.
