Lewis Hamilton could still be going at 42! Brit hints his new Mercedes deal could run until 2026 as he argues his best chance of challenging Max Verstappen will be after rule changes come in

Lewis Hamilton has hinted that his supposedly agreed Mercedes contract contains an option allowing him to stay in Formula One to the end of the 2026 season, close to his 42nd birthday. That is how long the seven-time world champion believes it may take to rein in the Red Bull juggernaut that he fears could carry Max Verstappen to victory in all 10 remaining races this year. Of Verstappen’s dominance – 10 wins from 12 races so far this season – Hamilton added: ‘There is a high chance that he will win every race. ‘Even here last year when the car was not great we were competing closer to the front.
