Lewis Hamilton closing in on new two-year deal with Mercedes worth around £60m… and he could commit his future to the team within the next THREE races in what could be his final Formula One contract

Lewis Hamilton is closing in on a new Mercedes contract that will extend his record-breaking stay with the team into next season at least. That was the time frame both parties set themselves for what may well be Hamilton’s final hurrah in Formula One. Although Hamilton is still finalising the proposed new contract with team principal Toto Wolff, it is likely to be a two-year deal worth about £30million annually. Hamilton’s current one-year deal was concluded only weeks before the season started and raised doubts over how much longer he and Mercedes would stay together. Hamilton joined the Northamptonshire-based team in 2013 and has won six of his seven world titles in their cars – a partnership unparalleled in the sport’s history.
