Lando Norris calls for FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem to rescind ban on driver protests after recent change prohibited ‘political, religious and personal statements unless approved in writing’ – as McLaren launch 2023 car

Lando Norris has called on embattled FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem to rescind his ban on driver protests. Norris, who has backed anti-racism stances, echoed other drivers in striking a defiant note, saying: ‘It depends what the sanction is, but if it was a fine, I am happy to break the rule. ‘But I feel as if there might be enough pressure and enough said in reaction to the FIA’s stance for them to make a bit of a U-turn. Is it Ben Sulayem and the FIA – or the participants and owners?. He said their new wind tunnel, which comes into use mid-year, will set them nicely for development through the season but not equip them for a world championship tilt until perhaps 2024 and more likely 2025.
