Johnny Herbert calls on disillusioned race fans to give F1 a SECOND chance after anger at Abu Dhabi conclusion last season… with the axing of race director Michael Masi a ‘positive’ step that will rid 2022 races of ‘silliness’

There are laughs and smiles that pockmark this conversation as he reminisces about his days as a driver, tracking the success of Lewis Hamilton and why ‘compromise’ is the one word no-one seems to want to use in Formula One. Johnny Herbert revealed he was out watching rugby recently when some fans told him they would never again watch F1, owing to the controversial ending in Abu Dhabi which saw Max Verstappen win his maiden world title. ‘I think they should come back because the drivers will still be doing the job that excited us last year and we won’t be seeing that silliness that happened at the end last season,’ Sky Sports F1 expert Herbert said. ‘You can’t forget it because it’s something we can’t see happen again. ‘The first is always a difficult one to read,’ Herbert said.
