Indomitable Max Verstappen holds off British rivals to win US F1 GP

The world champion and his team were faced with a determined effort from the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, who was second, and the McLaren of Lando Norris, who was third, but had their measure once more. Norris had taken the lead at the opening corner of the Circuit of the Americas and drove a consummate race in his resurgent car, while his team and Mercedes tried their best with tyre strategy to take the fight to Red Bull but ultimately Verstappen’s race pace proved indomitable, as it has all season. McLaren and Mercedes gave it their all but the Red Bull’s performance was the difference. He won from pole in the short-format race with a nine-second lead over Hamilton delivered in just 19 laps. It is a tally he will surely extend further and with four races still to go.
