The Mercedes GP team announced on tuesday that after taking the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, that the seven-time World Champion woke up on Monday morning suffering mild syptoms and subsequently tested posititve for covid-19. Therefore Lewis Hamilton is now isolating in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain, and will not race in the Sakhir GP this upcoming weekend. It is expected that Mercedes GP will announce a replacement driver for the World Champion to partner Valtteri Bottas. The most likely candidates are reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, who is flying to Bahrain, or to draft in Mercedes driver George Russell.
