Haas boss Gunther Steiner reveals team considered trying to rush Mick Schumacher’s smashed-up car back to the track in time for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix after horror qualifying crash… but the risks of derailing their Australia plans were too great

Haas boss Gunther Steiner claims a rush job to fix Mick Schumacher’s car for Formula 1’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix would have risked derailing his team’s prospects for the next race. The shocking nature of the crash was shown as the Haas car broke in two as it was lifted off the track. If they rushed Schumacher back, Haas would have had no time to check things back at the factory before the next F1 race in the series. ‘You have to ship everything from here to Melbourne,’ he said. ‘We cannot ship it to the UK now to do all the stuff on the car like you need, to crack check and all those other good things.
