Haas boss Guenther Steiner has revealed he spoke to Daniel Ricciardo ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, but did not discuss his immediate future. Steiner poured cold water on the suggestion the US team had already sounded out Ricciardo ahead of next season, but conceded he expected the Australian to return to the grid sooner rather than later. Discussing the matter with Magnussen, Steiner was quick to dismiss the possibility of signing Ricciardo because of his financial expectations. Ricciardo reportedly pocketed a $15.7million payoff from McLaren in the offseason and while he’s eager to return to the grid, he is not desperate to do so at any cost.
