Glory Days: Hewitt Wins, Hillenburg Shines

Indiana native Andy Hillenburg is one of the rare drivers who has found success in numerous racing divisions through the years. Hillenburg, one of the few drivers who has raced in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500, made his mark in open-wheel racing during the early days of his career. He qualified 16th in a 38-car field and steadily worked his way through the field to finish third, behind race winner Jack Hewitt and Jeff Bloom. Hewitt became the first driver in the history of the one-mile oval to complete 100 laps in less than an hour in winning the race.
