George Russell secures the FIRST pole position of his career after sensational lap… as world champion Max Verstappen will start in tenth after disastrous session while Lewis Hamilton is only seventh

George Russell claimed his first pole position with a brilliant flying lap in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. George Russell has claimed his first pole position of his career after pipping both Ferraris. It’s a cracking top five after the first runs, with Carlos Sainz ahead of George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Not even that really as Leclerc tucks into second place just behind Verstappen. Carlos Sainz goes fifth fastest and half a second down on Verstappen while Charles Leclerc’s time is only good enough for tenth. They go second and third but are seven tenths of a second down on Max Verstappen. So as it stands then we could perhaps see another battle between Verstappen and Leclerc.
