George Russell calls for Belgian Grand Prix to be cancelled if rain makes the track unsafe following the recent death of Dilano van ‘t Hoff, 18, at Spa

George Russell has raised the prospect of Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix being called off owing to bad weather. Sensitivities here are heightened by the death at Spa four weeks ago of 18-year-old Dutch driver Dilano van ‘t Hoff in a Formula Regional European Championship race. Mercedes’ Russell said: ‘We don’t want to see another huge incident like the one we have just had. ‘We want to race, everybody wants to race, but when you go down that straight at over 200mph and you can’t see 50 metres in front of you, there will be incidents, so the FIA have got a big responsibility this weekend.’.
