Furious Red Bull boss Christian Horner is set to hold talks with F1 chiefs over the sport’s controversial budget cap as he fights to clear his team’s name after they were found to have been in ‘minor breach’ of the rules

Christian Horner, Red Bull’s embattled team principal, is holding talks with Formula One’s two most powerful figures this weekend in an attempt to thrash out the budget-cap controversy throttling the sport. He is also due to speak in the official press conference on Saturday, alongside McLaren’s Zak Brown and Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto – two leading critics of Red Bull’s breach. A major grievance at Red Bull is that the FIA’s interim secretary general is Shaila-Ann Rao, whose previous immediate employment was as lawyer at Red Bull’s bitterest rivals, Mercedes. But if Red Bull decide to appeal their anticipated sanction the whole saga would roll on. As it stands, Red Bull are likely to be handed both a financial penalty and a sporting one.
