FIA talks with Red Bull over penalty for budget cap breach are put on HOLD following death of the F1 team’s billionaire co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz after a long illness

Red Bull and the FIA have suspended discussions over the cost cap breach following the death of the team’s founder Dietrich Mateschitz. The jolt of his death led Red Bull to confirm: ‘Following the passing of Mr Mateschitz, all conversations with the FIA around the cost cap and next steps are on hold until further notice. Essentially, Red Bull and the FIA are in an arm wrestle with the aim of reaching an ‘accepted breach agreement’ (ABA) during this opaque and seemingly open-ended process over the Milton Keynes-based team breaching the £114million spending limit last year by an unconfirmed £1.8m.
