Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc takes pole for Sprint race ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix – despite late crash – with Sergio Perez second ahead of Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen… but Lewis Hamilton is only sixth in Baku

Charles Leclerc took pole position for the sprint race in Azerbaijan, which starts at 2.30pm BST. Leclerc did not have it all his own way and he thudded into the barriers on his final flying lap, damaging his front wing. ‘I’m sorry for Carlos,’ said Leclerc, who also left his team with a repair to perform between the new-fangled ‘spring shootout’ and the sprint itself, staged over 17 laps. ‘I was very happy with the first lap and now we have to convert that into the race. ‘Ferrari needs to be on top and I will give absolutely everything to win.’.
