Fernando Alonso says Lewis Hamilton has been ‘LUCKY’ in his F1 career for being in a ‘dominant car for many years’… but Spaniard concedes his ex-McLaren team-mate and rival ‘is one of the best in history’

Fernando Alonso believes Lewis Hamilton has cemented his status as one of the greatest Formula One drivers ever, but admits his previous team-mate has been ‘lucky’ to drive for Mercedes during their years of dominance. Hamilton has been the sport’s superstar driver over the last decade with Mercedes, winning seven drivers championships in that time. Alonso feels Hamilton will go down as one of the best drivers in history regardless of whether he wins another title, but labelled his time at Mercedes as ‘lucky’ telling Marca: ‘I have a lot of respect for him. Alonso’s emphasis on Hamilton having the best car during his reigning years in F1 isn’t an understatement or a sly dig at his competitor.
