Father and Son Week: A look back

Having spent the week running the rule over some of the strongest current family relationships in the World Rally Championship, we thought we’d take Saturday to look back on some of the best. Jimmy McRae, the Godfather of the clan, was a five-time British Rally Champion and a man who appeared to be constantly knocking on the door of the world championship. Alister won the British title in the same 1995 season and was a factory driver in the world championship for Hyundai and Mitsubishi before a mountain bike injury curtailed his career. Matthew Wilson followed his father Malcolm into the world championship and finished seventh in the season-long standings for three years in succession. Sharing the M-Sport team for two years of Matthew’s career was Marcus Grönholm. The two-time world champion certainly finished the job his two-time Finnish champion father Ulf started before he was killed in a road accident in 1981.
