F1’s FIA governing body are thrown into crisis again after their new race directors Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas BOTH test positive for Covid – meaning they are doubts for the inaugural event in Miami

Formula One’s crisis-surfing governing body, the FIA, have now seen both their new race directors test positive for Covid. Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas are, therefore, doubts for the inaugural F1 race in Miami a week on Sunday. One source said: ‘The FIA are totally lost as to what to do. ‘Drivers’ lives are on the line and they don’t seem to have a structure in place for the possibility that neither official is negative in time to fly.’. Wittich and Freitas were appointed after Michael Masi was sacked in February in the wake of last year’s controversial title-decider. On Wednesday night, the FIA declined to outline what contingencies are in place.
