F1 legend says it would be ‘game over’ for Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo if he takes next season off from the grid: ‘You get forgotten after a year’

Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed he doesn’t expect to be racing in Formula One next season, but former world champion Jensen Button has warned the Aussie about this move – saying it could end his career. ‘I think the reality is now I won’t be on the grid in 2023,’ he said after finishing 11th in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. ‘I don’t know what he would get out of being a third driver. ‘So it needs to be the team where he thinks he can get a seat for 2024, otherwise it’s game over because you get forgotten after a year in F1,’ said Button. ‘Certainly the plan is still to be involved in Formula 1,’ Ricciardo said.
