EXCLUSIVE: Haas boss Guenther Steiner admits Daniel Ricciardo made the RIGHT decision to walk away from F1 for a year away as he says Aussie star was ‘on a downward spiral’ at McLaren

Guenther Steiner believes Daniel Ricciardo made the right call to take a step back from Formula One this year with the Haas boss claiming the beleaguered Aussie was ‘on a downward spiral’ with McLaren. ‘I think he’s doing the right thing to take a year out,’ he told Mail Sport. ‘It’s good to have a year in my opinion just to reflect on it because, for sure, the last year wasn’t easy for him because he is a good race car driver and he was beaten by his teammate. But does he want to come back and prove that he’s what he was before? It is the decision of one of the teams which take him on as well. ‘I think as a race car driver, you need a lot of confidence when you go, when you try to be a tenth of a second faster on your teammate.
