Denny Hamlin Lands Talladega Cup Series Pole

TALLADEGA, Ala. – NASCAR Cup Series point leader Denny Hamlin will lead the field to green for Sunday’s GEICO 500 at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway. Lap speed is weighted at 15 percent, previous race finish at 25 percent for the driver and owner results and owner points position at 35 percent to calculate the final metric score. Hamlin earned the pole with a metric score of 1.5, factoring in his recent runner-up finish at Richmond Raceway, the fastest lap from that event and his top seeding in the point standings after nine of 36 races this season. NASCAR Xfinity Series regular Harrison Burton, making his NASCAR Cup Series debut Sunday with Gaunt Brothers Racing, starts 39th for Sunday’s 500-mile race.
